Two (2) men arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters today (Monday) seeking assistance after a female abandoned her infant son at their home during a drinking binge in Mhlasini - KZN.

The men informed Reaction Officers that they were consuming alcohol with a group of friends yesterday (Sunday). The female arrived with the child and a mutual friend. They all consumed alcohol together before the female left with one (1) of the men.

A man from the group returned to his room and found the child abandoned. A blue packet containing diapers was located next to the baby. He assumed that the mother would return to uplift the child.
He purchased food and cared for the infant throughout the night. This morning (Monday) he and a friend began searching for the mother without success. They thereafter sought assistance from RUSA.

Reaction Officers contacted the Verulam Child & Family Welfare Society. Two (2) Social Workers arrived at RUSA offices shortly thereafter and uplifted the baby & both males.
They informed Officers that they intended on registering a criminal case of Child Abandonment.
